The Shawshank Redemption

Well this had to be the first. This is my all time favorite movie.

Its One of the finest films made ever. Its a story about hope, honesty, patience and perseverance.

The main cast in the movie are Tim Robbins ( Andy Dufrense ) and ever famous Morgan Freeman ( Red ).

The story begins with the trial of a young banker ( Andy ). Hes found guilty of killing his wife or lover and is life sentenced in Shawshank prison. Andy struggles to face the world in the prison. It takes a lot of time for him to get used to the way inmates are treated. Andy gains respect among the inmates and he becomes a close friend of Red.

Red has been in the prison for long time and knows a lot of things that go around in the prison. Like he says in the movie " I am the person who can get things here". Andy asks Red for a rock hammer. Andy loves rocks and uses it to carve them, thats how he spends his time in the prison chipping rocks.

Shawshank one of the finest prisons is run by the warden named ( Norton ). Hes the guy who is incharge of the entire Shawshank.

Andy slowly gets accustomed to the conditions within the prison, so one fine day when he overhears a conversation of a fellow officer. He goes towards him and tells that he could do tax returns for him which can save him some money. Hearing this, all the officers including the warden's ( Norton ) tax returns are done by Andy. Now, Andy becomes an important person at Shawshank.

Looking at Andy's work, his assignment is shifted from the laundry to the prison's small library, then under the stewardship of Librarian ( Brooks Hatlen ), one of the few other prisoners with a college degree. The new assignment also allows Andy to spend more time doing financial paperwork for the staff.

When Brooks is sent out of prison, Andy takes charge of the library and applies for funding to expand the library. For a long time he gets no response to his weekly letters until the Senate finally agrees, thinking Andy will stop requesting funds. Instead of ceasing his letter writing, he starts writing twice as often. His diligent work results in a major expansion of the library's collection, and he also helps a number of prisoners earn equivalency diplomas, preparing them for life after parole.

During one of the routine entries at Shawshank, a young kid ( Tommy ) joins Andy's and Red's Group. Tommy is a young guy who has been imprisoned in different prison's. Andy comes to know from Tommy as to who murdered his wife. Hearing this, Andy goes to Norton and tells him about it.

However, Norton rubbishes out his cries and sends him into solitary confinement for a couple of months. Tommy tells all his fellow inmates about what he had heard from one of the cellmate he was with who actually killed Andy's wife.

One Night, Norton asks Tommy if he could tell the truth in the court about Andy. Tommy obliges to do so. However, Tommy is killed by Norton's guards. Andy is shattered listening to this but still manages to hope for the best.

Well, I am going to end this story here. The rest is for you to see as it is very interesting as to how Andy comes out of the prison and drags Norton out.
